Allen’s Brew

Allen’s Brew is the newly formed brainchild of Brooklyn native Marc Alexis (vocals, bass) and Hartford-based Austin Tewksbury (vocals, guitar). The two have been working independently since their college graduation, but are now sharing influences and writing music together. With the addition of Hartford’s Sam King (percussion), Allen’s Brew is arranging new music as a band and expects to release their debut EP next year.

Bandshes

Bandshes are an indie-americana trio made up of Connecticut natives Zoe Chatfield, Athena Demaille, and Emily Gregonis. Their sound is reminiscent of Doris Day, if she had been born in the 90’s, listened to a lot of Regina Spektor, and then wrote music with her best friends.
Friends since high school, they continue to collaborate on music together. They’re most recent release Small Talk, is available for streaming on all platforms and for purchase on Bandcamp.

Hartford Hot Several

Hartford needed a funky marching band to bring brass, ruckus, and joy to all the parties. In 2012, we set out to be that band.

There are between 10 and 24 of us and we’re like the Justice League of funk and rumble: we show up, make people smile and dance, then go back to our fancy lair.

Jer

I am a singer-songwriter from Storrs, CT who enjoys listening to primarily alternative, indie, pop, rock, and blues. I like to focus on the lyrical content of a song, and the unique phrasing and stylistic patterns that the writer employs. Music, to me, has a plasticity to it which I find mesmerizing. In its simplest form it is a rough, infantile, barely noticeable sequence of sounds. Yet, from that, it has infinite potential to expand into something indescribably sublime. This simple, yet infuriatingly complex dichotomy is what fascinates me about songwriting at its core. I also think of songwriting and music as tools with which I can process my emotions and guide me toward a substantive existence.

Joe Linhart

Joseph Linhart is a local guitarist and songwriter, moving to Hartford and the West End a year ago. While he enjoys and plays music in all genres, Joe is most influenced by such artists as Jimi Hendrix, John Mayer, and Glen Hansard. He can be found across social media, and is always interested in making new friends and meeting fellow singers, players, and other makers of noise.

Maxine Martin

Clarinetist and Tenor Saxophonist Maxine Martin has been performing and teaching in New York and Connecticut for over 30 years. Before the pandemic, she enjoyed working with several groups: her group Smokin’ Mirrors, a quartet of musicians with eclectic tastes and multi-talented skills: Abu Alvin Carter, Sr., percussionist; Cori Lovejoy, pianist; and fellow West Ender Jim Mercik, banjoist/guitarist. They performed at various venues in the community: Monday Night Jazz at Bushnell Park, Charter Oak Cultural Center Galas, Farmers’ Markets, Hartford Public Library, schools, churches, etc. She also performed in a big band called ECHO (East Coast Hop Orchestra; hop is for the tap dancer!) with band director and guitarist Lynn Tracey; and worked with another stellar group on her CD Fragments and Colors of Me (Sinan Bakir, guitarist; Warren Byrd, pianist; Matt Dwonszyk, bassist; and Cemre Dogan, percussionist).
Throughout the years, Maxine has worked in the New York and Connecticut Public Schools as a teaching artist, substitute teacher, and also as an Arts Provider with Hartford Performs, an arts organization that collaborates with Hartford Public Schools.

She studied at Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford as a music education student while auditing courses with saxophonists Paul Jeffries and Jackie McLean. She has a B.A. in Music from the University of South Florida.

You can visit Maxine on her Facebook music page Maxine Carol Martin, her website: www.reverbnation.com/maxinecarolmartin, and if you’re interested in online saxophone and clarinet lessons (for children and adults/3rd grade and up) or would like her CD, you can email her at: maxthemost1@gmail.com

Mike’s 2008 CD, “A Handful of Treasure”, explores life’s transformations through 10 original songs. Life’s gains and losses are explored with a sensitivity and tenderness are rarely found in today’s music. Lean back and enjoy the mellow vibe.

ShouldaCouldaWoulda

ShouldaCouldaWoulda is a band made up of music teachers who absolutely love to play! They enjoy progressive folk music, traditional old timey folk music, and everything in between. In this iteration, they are Andy Mayo, Rob Hugh, and Dave Miller, though we have a few more players when we can get away with it!
